SALINAS DE IBIZA (SES SALINES)

SALINAS DE IBIZA ( NATURAL PARK) were already in use in Roman ages. From then the Salinas are producing salt.

With very good weather conditions and no winds, you can find a nice reflections on the small lakes of the Salinas. Of course at a very early hours, because around ten o´clock the brise of the air brakes this magic moments.

Nowadays are in project to take out all the electricity cables, as is obvious that the landscape are not no nice with them. Hope they will not take too much time to do so.

This salinas are still in use and producing salt. The doday´s tecnology is not the same at all of some years ago. Some of those are not in use anymore but still we can see them.

The humid zones (humedales) are very important for the fauna that comes on step on their annual migrations. It is very frequent to see here flamingos, herons and other type of non autochthonous species on their transit throught the Island.

Ses salines has it owns port were boats from all Europe comes to load the salt. The port is located very close of the most famous beach of Ibiza, the Playa de Mitjorn more popular as the Salinas beach.

Cala Conta Beach

CALA COMPTE - CALA CONTA BEACH

The summer will be back very soon. And it´s now the right moment to enjoy these group of small beaches at the west of the Island. This colour of the sea, is unique in this island so I dare to say that this is the most Caribbean beach of Ibiza. The colour of the sea (due to the Posidonea) is awesome, and not only that, another thing is the little islands that surrounds this place. The reason to visit now is because in summer is a bit crowed and the quiteness of winter is another reason to enjoy this place.
The small archipielago of the Bledes Islands are located at the west side and at the north you´ll see the Illa des Bosc (The forest island). If the weather permits so, you can reach it swiming. But you have to be carefull because in this waters very often are very strong Ocean surface currents.

At the west side you can see the impressive illa d´Espart, the biggest island around.
Wonderfull sunsents from there every afternoon.

AN AFTERNOON IN THE LOCAL RADIO STATION

When Jacquie Perry from “This Ibiza Life” saw my blog, she phoned me to come along to Gail Fear and her’s weekly radio programme to talk about it. Why did you start doing it? What gave you the idea? What is a blog? So, with all these questions in mind we spoke about it on the programme and it also gave me the oportunity to see a radio and television studio, how it works and also get to meet some of the known and popular people that appear on the screen such as Jesus Rumbo and Agustin from the famous Kafé Kaleta from the T.E.F (Televisiò de Eivissa i Formentera). and also the people we don’t see behind the microphones in the studio.

Jacquie Perry inside the “control room”(left) and on the right with the “token man” of the programme, Ben Bates. Ben was a correspondant with the BBC, played in the English Football League, was a physical trainer there and is the actual physical trainer of the Ibiza Rugby Team which to date have never lost a match. The programme is on air every Tuesday on 106.4 FM every Tuesday between 2100-2200. It is a phone-in, chat, informative programme as well as you being able to make your requests and dedications for any type of occasion or just to hear your name on air. You can also listen in on www.ondapitiusa.com.
Here I want to share some of my moments with you of that Tuesday and thank everybody for the kindness I was shown in those few hours in the studios of Onda Pitiusa and let me make a special mention to Jacquie who in spite of my nerves infront of the microphone made me feel that comfortable as if I was in my own home. I also saw how Marcos from “Punto G” (Monday to Friday 1900-2100) did his programme and also Xavi who does Backstage every Tuesday between 2200-2300.

The famous presenters of Kafé Kaleta en la TEF, that goes out on air every Thursday around 2215, who were preparing a new programme, in the photo below and with Marco from Punto G, who show that although the television and the radio are two different worlds they all get on well together.
KAFE KALETA is a funny, entertaining and animated programme like their presenters and below we have Marco and Agus showing the pace to a rap.
And as we can see in the photo below it’s normal that between the two presenters there are some disagreements or a change of impressions but with intelligence, calmness and understanding they usually find a pacific solution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Above, Jacquie in the arms of her radio and television colleagues and below Xavi in the studio, broadcasting his Backstage Show that goes out every Tuesday at 2200 and a tender photo of Agus and Jacquie on the right.

FIESTA IN SANTA EULALIA

Once again as every February 12th, Santa Eulalia celebrates her Saint Patron´s day. Their celebrate about the Saint who lived in Barcelona when Hispania, and she decided to be Cristian. Her death took place on a cross and that´s her icon with the image. The X cross nowadays is as well the symbol of this village and is on the Court of Arms of the village.

This celebration give us the opportunity to go back on the time. So we can see how many years ago, the women went to the church with those customs, and of course with that piece of material on white and black colours, just for religion purposes. So here I can share with you in this pictures how the girls are going in and out of the church and as well follow the procesion.

The Image of Santa Eulalia with that roof that is the icon of the Village (up) and (down) girls following the procesion.

Althought the girls are a bit serious on colours when going to the church the men bring the touch of colours with the sounds of tipical instruments, and as well with red huts, and some red customes.

Once the mass and procesions ends, the girls can take out the piece of the head, and then become a very colourfull dresses and as well a very awesome kind of gold jewels, that they use only in a very especiall ocasions.

Tipical dances are performing in front of the church.
Two images of the procesion (down), the first one with the only image of Saint Mariano that exists on the island and the second the image of the virgin with tipical ibicencan earings, that may be a devoted lady offered to the image.
