IBIZA UNDERWATER

SURROUNDED BY FISHES

Despite the crowds in Ibiza during peak season which coincides with the hottest days, there are still places where the sea is very transparent, and where life within its waters is exuberant.

To avoid the high temperatures is not easy, but a dip into the Mediterranean waters can help a lot. But if we do so, provided with a glass mask we will discover the universe that appears infront of us under the waters.

Dozens of silverfish come around us, and also we see all on a blue background that makes for a moment we forget all that is out of this live sea.

Fast movements combined with swimming serene of these fish, if we do not move or offer them some bread, that are circling slowly around us and staying with us for a while.

If snorkeled some more background we can see the same fishes, but with another fund, the impressive background offered by meadows Posidonia, that far from being an alga as often is confused, actually is a marine plant that oxygenates the sea and It produces blue colors only comparable to those in the Caribbean. Let us not forget that the award of "World Heritage" managed in 1,999 had much to do with the conservation of these prairies of Posidonia.

There are not many places with the waters so clear as the ones we see in this area. It´s a pleasure to enjoy the islets from inside the water. these islets gives an unusual landscape to this beach. In the image above we see the islet of S'illa des Bosc, which is located directly across from these shores and that if the currents allow us it can be reached by swimming.

Their sandy areas are quite breathtaking, and sometimes get the feeling that never end, and as we can see in the images the visibility inside water is realy clear in this area, much larger than in other areas of the island, this is due the plant "posidonea" which exists in big amount into this area. The posidonea area combines with other great sandy areas into the sea.

Once we are inside the sea, the water provides to our eyes a blue and white setting. These colors of waters and sands are really beautiful and seem the Caribbean at the Mediterranean. All the frequent readers, who often visit my blog (which I appreciate) know my passion for these beaches, the only thing that I can complain is the large number of people who visit in high season this place, something absolutely normal, because this place is so nice that many people want to enjoy of it.

As they get used to us, the fishes will be coming to us ....

As we see in these images the beauty of the beaches of compte is not only in its landscape outside the sea, but also inside.

THE HIDDEN IBIZA

UNDER THE SEA OF IBIZA

One of the greatest treasures of the island remains beneath the sea, the Mediterranean sea that surrounds the islands of Ibiza and Formentera. The meadows of oceanic posidonea are displayed in the World Heritage Site by Unesco for "Ibiza biodiversity and culture", where they appear as such: Dalt Vila, the necropolis of Puig des Molins, Ses feixes, the Phoenician site of Sa Caleta, the "salinas" of Ibiza and Formentera and the area of "Freus" (exactly where I took these pictures) and oceanic posidonea meadows and natural formations on the seabed.

These meadows of posidonea are certenly oxygen lungs for the Mediterranean around the islands and between them have held a variety of animal and plant life.
This marine plant is also responsible of the spectacular blue colors of the sea in some sea areas of the island.

Where there is no posidonea, there are large sandy or rocky terraces covered with other marine vegetation. The fishes are swimming around, from one place to another and sometimes accompany us on our vistis underwater

Rocky reefs are home for a number of fish and other marine life. There are many around Ibiza, and colorful views of these areas make us spend time forgetting the everyday routine. There's nothing like being like a fish for a while.

A relative of the last character in the global media, octopus Paul did not hesitate to choose the Spanish team as a winner in the last footbal worldcup, is easy to found on the seabed, but amazed at the great facility with changing their color to camuflate itself.

Some of these octopuss like to play, this one played with my fins (of course, chose not know why the right wing, extending its tentacles in it, completely ignoring the left one). Once tired of playing with her flaps moved away quickly.
Anemones also exist in many parts of the coast of Ibiza. Some of them with spectacular colors and shapes that they move following the waves movements. To jump down the sea, is to go to other site of the island.
