BENIRRAS

The name of this beach (Benirras) comes from the arab lenguage. This is a very nice beach just at the north of the Island. Locally is known as the Port of Benirras, due the closeness of the bay. At the very front of the beach you can see far away the impresive hills of Na Xamena.
In summer every sunday you can enjoy at sunset of the sounds of drums untill late at night.

Front of the beach you can see the rock that leads hundreds of leyends.
Even there are not an agreement about the real name, but the follow two: carall bernat and Cap Bernat are the most populars. The name "carall" can come from the pre-romanic lenguage Kar=rock.
If one is not too drunk it is possible to see the silhouette of a woman seating on the sea. If too drunk then its possible to see thounsand diferents things...
I have heard that some britons call it "Queen Elisabeth" because some of them can see the Queen Elisabeth (dont know if the first or the second) seating on the throne with the crown on the head.
Others including guide books or internet websites, are calling it "dedo de dios" or "finger of god", but the real "dedo de dios" is located in Agaete (Gran Canaria) more than 2000 kilometres away.... Anyway the "dedo de dios" it doenst exists anymore due a big windy storm destroyed the famous finger and now the rock is without the finger.
Definitively this rock is the Cap Bernat, located in Benirras at the north of Ibiza island, and from there you can enjoy nice sunsets but only when the day is specially long... as end june or beginning of july.

SANTA AGNES DE CORONA on their date.

The Small village of Santa Agnès at the north of the island, as every january is ready to offer the flower white show of the almond-trees, it seems that this year this will happen in about ten days. Then again we will be able to see a big amount of people walking around the white scenary of the country of this nice village. The last January 21th is the holiday party of the locality, the almond-trees already gave us a small appetizer and some shy almond-tree flower put his white color out matching with the white church of the town.

This celebrations have left us a beautiful prints of the rural Ibiza. The procession goes around the old way procession passes for the old way (dirt road) that borders the church and that is not open to cars. The prints are specially beautiful because the landscape is full of trees and walls of stone.

As all the churches of the Island, Santa Agnès also has her flag or banner with the image of the Holy one that goes out in front of the procession. The red colour remembers that Santa Agnes was a martyr Saint.
The history tells that the Roman Santa Agnes had great beaty, and was one of the firsts martyrs Christian. The name Agnes comes from latin Agnus (means Lamb) that is what goes in a hand. her history anyway seems to be excessively distorted.
Here we can see the image in procession surrounded with people who with respect and devotion extracts her holy Saint Patroness walking along these beautiful landscapes of this village that honours her every January 21st.

ARCHITECTURE FROM IBIZA

IBIZA´S ARCHITECTURE

Is not easy to definy in exactly terms what is Ibizan architecture, but undoubtedly definitions as simple and white, the unpolluted white of the Ibiza architecture, by which Ibiza was called the " white island ". The whitewashed walls are always in any house as well as in Ibiza churches, though in occasions they appear also with the nake walls showing directly the stone. To whitewash walls is a practice that is supposed concerns to the Punic epoch. In the picture above we can see an indispensable detail in the roof of sabina.'s tree, girders arches in the "porches", straight walls in the rest .... and the touch of color with the doors and windows, is rather free to interpretation of everyone. Very thick and bulky walls, which do that the houses support fresh temperature in summer and warm during winter. Windows that are more narrow outdoors part that indoors, imitating a bit to the former strengths and fortresses that were on the Ibicencan churches.

FULL MOON IN SANTA EULALIA

Santa Eularia des Riu down the FULL MOON

This month I had the chance to see the full moon from Santa Eulalia and started with some clouds that after went out. So the spectacle did not defraud. Not only I could take images of the "Puig de Missa" with the church in the high of the mountain, but from the beach of the city with the reflection of the moon in the sea, a few threatening clouds that did not remove but added beautyness and the solitude of the beach illuminated by the moon with the parasols of esparto waiting the summers tourists.

Santa Eulalia is surrounded of forests which offer the aspect of above with the full moon and this one surrounded with shades of pine and sabina trees.

Down this lines a picture of Puig de Missa, the hill with the church of Santa Eulalia at the top.

OLD IBIZA

Some days ago, I had in my hands a very interesting book of old pictures of Ibiza. When I see books like those, I wished to be on those days of the old and real Ibiza. Of course those days have gone, but looking carefully some of those pictures, I reminded some pictures i took on the Saint Mathew´s day, in the small village of Sant Mateu, at the north of the island, where the "colla d´Eubarca" gave a special old atmosphere to that day. I thought that if i do a small work with those pictures, they could be like those old pictures of the book. So I tried and here are the results. May be they look like the pictures book, with those photos made on the 60´s or 70´s but they were taken just three monthes ago....

CANAL DEN MARTÌ - POU DES LLEÓ

One of the most picturesque places of the Ibiza coast is placed in the zone of Sant Carles -Pou des Lleo-. In this place it is possible to find a zone of bath inside a small cove surrounded with fishermen's houses, is a very calm ideal place for the skin-diving and the fishing.
