Valcar River

This River is only famous at the river mouth. There is where the Town of Santa Eulalia has the name of the "El Rio" the river. At the roman times this river was known as Valcar.

From differents "brolls" (places where the water born) the water is transporting to the River. Untill the sixties of the XXth Century this River had water all year around.

This is the only River in Spain out of the mainland. From the year 2006/7 The river have water all winter around. This thing was not happen from many decades ago.

Although Ibiza is famous for the beaches, Ibiza also has a magnificent cliffs especially at the north side of the Island.

This Cliffs are known as "Es amunts", just something like the "highlands" of Ibiza.

It´s quite amazing to see the local flora of the this sites.

Thanks to Joan Costa (he knows very well the island) I could come to this place, it belongs to Sant Mateu d´Eubarca, and this is the view to the Cala Eubarca.

CORMORANTS AND SEAGULLS

This one up here remains me the film of Titanic. The cormorants never pay to get on a boat. All these pictures were taken at the Sant Antoni de Portmany´s Bay.

Meanwhile the sea gulls are looking what´s on around... and flying over us.

THE BLUE CALA CONTA

The island is called (espartar), is just infront of the wonderful beach of Cala Conta. The bue of the sea is awesome and specially in a blue sky days.

The cave of the picture down, belongs to figera borda very near of the beach and is surrounded of little houses for the boats (varaderos).



At the far end we can see the "illes bledes" archipielago. and even very near of the coast the blue colour is very nice too.

GOOD FRIDAY

GOOD FRIDAY PROCESSION IN DALT VILA

This is in fact the biggest procession on the island. So the streets of the old town are full of tambor sounds, and silence during the pass of the "cofradias" with their images that belong to the different churches of the Town. The devotion of the people is clear around.

At the end of the procession the rain took place, and the "cofradias" in case of rain are always ready to protect their images.

HOLY THURSDAY IN SANT LLORENÇ

The Via crucis, is a procession that is celebrated in each church. Outside there are marks with small churches and they are due this celebration. So in this Thursday I went to Sant Llorenç to see the Via Crucis that they celebrate during the Holy Thursday as the most of the churches. Some others celebrated on the good Friday or the previous sunday.

In Sant Llorenç the folk sings a very very old hymns. They celebrate the procession in the most way of respect and silence.

The traditionals "holy houses" (Cases Santes) are exhibited in every church decorated with many flowers and plants. As a small altar, where the Jesus body is represented during three days. The wine and bread, remains the last dinner of Jesus with the Apostles.

FULL MOON IN SANT LLORENÇ / SAN LORENZO (BALAFI)

Allways the full moon comes on the night of Holy Thursday to Good Friday. In this ocation I was already in Sant Llorenç de Balafia. So the white church is decorated in these pictures with the magic moon light.

IBIZA EVEN IN AMERICA CONTINENT

After some weeks in America, exactly in Costa Rica, was a surprise to see in an office of the main city San José a picture of Ibiza. This picture was a classic on the 70´s decade. This steps are located in Dalt Vila between the Town Hall and the old "Seminario". It´s amazing where you can find pictures of this Island.

Time for holidays for a couple of weeks. I want to thanks to everyone who visits the blog, for comments, and advises. Back in april.

SUNRISE IN TALAMANCA´S BAY

TALAMANCA BAY IN SUNRISE

Allow me to show you today, the same day that I take vacations, these images with a bit of "nostalgia". During this month I will not see the dawn that I am in the habit of seeing all the year during my duty. These images are taken in my "night" duty of work, and as the work is normally synonymous of routine, I have this moment of the day when it comes daily being so special. First this moment means that my duty is near to end, and it is necessary to put the things in order for the following duty and second I have to admit that I am the privileged to can see this views every morning. Not all the people when work can enjoy these spectacular sights.

Every sunrise is different. In the cold mornings of winter the mist appears on the sea when the sun appears and starts warming the cold sea.

The blue & white and multicolors tonalities of colors are appearing as the dawn is breaking the darkness of the night..

There are magic and culminating moments like when the Sun appears in the horizon by differents " Point on the East " In four days times I´ll go away in another direction of the planet ... towards the west, if everything is OK, I will be in the point more to the west of all the places I have been... From there I will remember these dawns views with pleasure.

MONUMENT TO THE CORSAIRS

This is the unique monument in the whole world that is dedicated to the corsairs. The corsairs were obviously pirates, but with the "letter of marque" which means that they were legals and authorised by the government. During the XVIII century they defended Ibiza and the inhabitants against undesirable invasions.

This monument is located at the Ibiza harbour and was design by the Architect Augusto Font.

The inauguration was in 1915.
